What is anxiety? It is an emotion, isn't it. There are many different emotions, with many different names, anxiety, depression, stress, sadness.
All these emotions, are dishes, with different flavours. In the human-kingdom, there is an infinite amount of flavours. You can sometimes be overwhelmed by the amount and intensity of flavours. For you, the flavour that is "too intense", "too overwhelming", is anxiety.
I am here to tell you, that it is a flavour. It is passing. It has appeared, and will disappear. You do not even need to do anything, it will pass by. You ask, "When will it pass". I am telling you these flavours depend on you, they depend on your interest, they cannot exist without you.
When there is no thought, no "I", there is no one to suffer. These flavours do not even exist, it is when you get "Involved" with them, and start claiming them as yours, that they will cause you to suffer. Until that point, they are just clouds appearing within an infinite sky, empty of all intention and desire.
Everything can appear and disappear, be like a blank slate, tabula resula, completely empty. Do not touch or identify with any thought, just inquire into, who is it appearing to?
Then you will see that you are the master, and that these emotions are only visitors. You can then decide how much importance is given to them.
Rumi wrote a poem, called "The Guest House". In this poem, he wrote:
"This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.
Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house, empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honourably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent, as a guide from beyond."
Most people panic, when intense emotions (flavours) appear. They try avoiding the emotion, by going on their phone, or taking drugs, or repeating mantras, all in effort to get the feeling to stop.
I am telling you, you are beyond this feeling. This feeling is appearing to you, and shall pass. It is actually useful, and has been "sent as a guide from beyond", as Rumi says. These feelings are the greatest guide, they can reveal who you are.
A master once said, "I built my home from the stones my enemy throws". You should use these emotions, to build your home. You should ask, "Who are they feelings appearing to, Who I am?". When these rocks are thrown, you will be able to understand who you truly are.
You are like space. Space has no boundaries, or shape, but shapes can appear within it. Just as shapes can appear within space, so can emotions, anxiety, depression, whatever it may be, it is welcome.
You are empty, and in that emptiness is your peace.
Looking to find your own space?
Why not try mediation its a way of finding yourself, once you find your true self you will realise that anxiety is in your mind its an emotion that will cone and go. It only exists because you let it.
