Exercising for just 15 minutes a day reduces the risk of mental illness by 25%.

Are you reaping the mental health benefits of exercise? The lockdown is taking its toll on peoples mental health. The “Stay at Home campaign”, bad weather, freezing cold conditions, has increased personal isolation and stress.

When we exercise there are said to be many mental health benefits.

When we exercise our minds are not focused on thoughts.

When we dance our minds are focused on the music.

When we run our thoughts are focused on running.

The thoughts that were focused on your “personal” problems shift to something less personal.

Harvard University found that running for 15 minutes a day, or walking for an hour reduces the risk of major depression by 25%. In other words just a few minutes of exercise can improve mental wellbeing.

Just 30 minutes of moderate exercise five times a week is enough.

Sounds crazy but its true.

One focuses on a specific task and they forget about everything else, relieving stress and worry.

This explains why studies show that exercise can treat mild to moderate depression as effectively as anti-depressant medication.

It's not just exercise that can help.

Exercise is important, however, the reader may wish to go further and fully realize that all things are temporary, and all of today's problems will soon pass.

During meditation or prayer, people have a break from worldly thoughts.

During meditation, chanting, and prayer the mind cannot think about its personal problems or perishable things.

In India, they often repeat mantra's or japa's to keep their mind focused on God.

The mind is made out of thought, and by concentrating the thoughts, it takes away the thoughts away from the problems of this world.

Sadhu's and many other practitioners feel bliss and joy when they practise Japa, because the mind is at peace with the repetitive japa.

Ramana Maharshi refereed to this as an elephant holding a single metal chain with its trunk and walking along with it.

Practicing mediation, leads to purity of mind, because it empties the mind of worldly thoughts. Thus, there is peace, joy and happiness.

This is exactly the same with the power of prayer.

Exercise essential for keeping the body healthy

Exercise is an essential part of keeping the body healthy, it has the ability to over come mental health issues but it is fleeting.

To really benefit in Mind and body then the reader will need to go further by discovering who they are, and what is eternal.

Everything that you perceive is not you, and shall perish.

Know thyself, and discover what is lasting and eternal in this life.
